Today’s first impression is of the show Scorching Ping Pong Girls. It’s a school show about girls that play Ping Pong. I’m a huge fan of Prince of Tennis so this seems like it would be right up my ally. Let’s take a look at the first episode.
Episode 1: “My Hearts About To Burst”
We start out by seeing Oudou Academy being shut out in the first round to Hayabusa Academy. They’ve been champions for nine years running and somehow an unknown team defeated them. This lights a fire in the rest of the teams who now see the crown up for the taking by any of them. But Hayabusa rides the momentum and wins the entire thing we find out.Kamiya Agari is the top player of the Suzumegahara Table Tennis Team. She loves being worshiped by her team and has dreams of reaching the National stage and competing in the tournaments. She runs into a new transfer student Tsumujikaze Koyori who happens to also be a very skilled Table Tennis player. They play a casual match that nearly turns into a serious match before the rest of the team shows up for practice. Kamiya is giving an interview during practice while Koyori manages to beat 10 first years without losing a single point. Later in the day Munemune who’s ranked 4th on the team as a third year challenges Koyori to a match. Munemune is known as an attacker and gets an early 3-1 lead over Koyori. She figures out Munemune’s weakness who’s very oppai so her footwork is bad because of how she is built and overcomes the handicap winning 11-8. At that moment Kamiya realizes that her spot as ace is under threat to Koyori and it seems a rivalry is born. Scorching Ping Pong Girls is a fun take on competitive ping pong. As a kid I had my own ping pong table as well and enjoyed playing a lot. So this show interests me on a nostalgia level. I’ll most likely keep watching this as a fun show. It’s got nice artwork, cute girls, and a fun story. The show is a solid C-Rank for me. It’s certainly a time killer and who knows the action later may push it up in rank for me. Tell me what you think of the show if you’re watching or checking it out.
